The Austrian Boxing Federation was the first member of the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) to establish an official Master Boxing Division for competitions among boxers aged between 40 and 60.
All athletes aged 40 to 60 can participate in the Master Boxing Division if they are ÖBV members, hold a valid boxing pass and an annual ÖBV license, and can provide a medical certificate from an ÖBV doctor.
Competitions are conducted in ten weight classes, from light flyweight (up to 49 kg) to super heavyweight (over 91 kg). The maximum age difference between opponents may be up to 10 years.
Fights take place in three Master Boxing classes: Beginner (0–5 fights), Advanced (6–15 fights), and Master (over 16 fights). Each match consists of 3 rounds of 2 minutes, with a 1-minute break in between.
The following equipment is mandatory for all Master Boxing Division fights: mouthguard, groin protector, 16-ounce gloves with an official ÖBV license seal, and headgear with an official ÖBV license seal.
“Every ÖBV club is authorized to host a Master Boxing event (subject to ÖBV approval).” The competition rules for this can be found on the ÖBV website under the Downloads section.
For approval, a notification of the event must be submitted at least 14 days before the planned date. In addition, an event fee of € 30 must be paid to the ÖBV.
Master Boxing bouts can also be conducted at AOB events. In this case, the event fee is € 60 and must also be reported to the ÖBV.
The officiating crew consists of 3 judges, 1 referee, a Technical Delegate (Supervisor), a timekeeper, and the ringside doctor.
Clubs or companies that are not members of the ÖBV but wish to host a Master Boxing event must pay € 1,800 for the event license to the ÖBV.
The athletes participating in these Master Boxing events must be ÖBV members.
